Crisp Fall Leaves

Hello Everyone!
I am so happy to announce that the first class at my house went well.  We had a total of 19 ladies come to my house to play.  I hope some of you can join us next month for more fun.  I will also be holding a mini crafty garage sale at the same time..... trust me I have oodles and oodles of stuff to sale.  I need room in that craft room! If interested comment here and I will contact you.

Here is a super fun fall card.  I am totally in love with it. I have several leaf sets but think that these came out the very best!  So let's get started with the step by step instructions to create this beauty.

Supplies
Stampendous Stamp crs5068 It would have also looked super cool with CRS5052 (I don't have it)
Matching Die Set DCS5068
CRH318 Greeting
Stampendous Deep Impressing Embossing enamel (bronze and silver)
Burlap shred (I shredded it from burlap fabric)
Cardstock: Kraft, Vanilla and expresso and some apricot cs (you can use any yellow or light color).
Ahesive: dry and liquid
Stayzon ink pad - I used brown but black would be great also
Tim Holtz distress pads: Peeled paint, Scattered Straw, festive berries, and antique linen.
Crimper

  1. Step 1 - Stamp images with Stayzon and cut with matching dies or fussy cut each leaf.
  2. Step 2 - Sponge ink onto each leaf using dabbers or make up removing sponges (dollar store). Peeled paint, scattered straw, festive berries
  3. Step 3 - Sponge Walnut Stain ink onto the edges of each leaf.
  4. Step 4 - Lay on two damp baby wipes (or damp papertowel). then gently scrunch it up.
  5. Step 5 - Unroll the leaf and spray with any giltter spray that you have.  I didn't think that the pink would work, but it did fine. Of course I would have rather used clear - but we need to be resourceful with what we already own!
  6. Step 6 - using random background stamps lightly stamp a background with antique linen ink.
  7. Step 7 - Sprinkle chunky embossing enamel onto vanilla cardstock.  Then heat from underneath with heat gun until melted.
  8. Crimp a piece of kraft cardstock (great recycle of paper grocery bags). assemble card.
  9. Stamp Greeting with Stayzon brown ink.

Colorful Hugs... Hope you will join us in making this card at Stamp Camp at my  home in Colton, CA on Sept 25 and Sept 26.  whoot whoot - too fun!

House Mouse Designs Challenge -

This Weeks' House Mouse Challenge theme is in the kitchen.... well my laundry is just outside my kitchen so this works for me!  Laundry is NOT my favorite chore, but I do LOVE denim.  When my son was small, he owned every pair of Osh Gosh overalls and jeans that they made along with several Guess and levi brand outfits... I love him in denim.
The denim was colored with my favorite denim color.  B91, B93, B95 and B97 or B99.  I added a bit of texture by dampening a piece of corderoy fabric with 90% alcohol and then dabbing the image after it was colored and shaded.  It dilutes the ink and leaves a great texture.  Then of course the cute little mice are colored with Copics as well.  Brown mice are E30, E33, E35, Gray mice are W1, W3 and W5.  Face, feet and tail are done with E00, E11 and R20 for the cheeks.

Give the challenge a go.  Although the theme is in the kitchen you can always add an anything goes theme to their challenge!  Win free goodies!

Colorful Hugs,

Jennie Black.

Watermelon Mice - House-Mouse Challenge #HMFMC193

Hello Everyone,

Today is time to play another House Mouse Designs Challenge.  Here is a fun image that I love.  The theme of this challenge is dots... well I am considering my seeds dots as well as my black paper has white dots.. so this is fitting!.  LOL....  Coloring the rind was fun, I wanted to have those dark green stripes so I wet the white area with blender pen then added the light green (YG13, YG03). The wet area allowed the light green ink to bleed into the area that was wet with blender soultion making it look lit it was fading into the white part of the rind.  I did the same with the dark green.  I made sure the light green area was very wet before adding the dark green allowing the two to blend together a bit for a gradual blend. I like how it turned out.  The reds were easy peasy as I love to color with reds. I used R20, R24, R29, and R59.  The seeds are even better if you leave a bit of white area for that shinny highlight.  They always look better if the area is left white rather than adding a white gel pen on top of the black.
Let the rind colors bleed into each other

Well, that's it for today, Hop you enjoyed my post.  Stamps are available through Stampendous  The cute House Mouse Designs stamp called Watermelon Mice  is available here HMR32, the matching greeting is called Mice Greetings is available here

Join the fun and enter your own House Mouse Design creation here  - If you don't want to join take a peek anyways at all of the great entries.

Free Copic class with Jennie Black - Building Dimension Week 2 & 3

Hello,

Well here is week two and three of my free Copic Coloring class series.  I hope that you enjoyed week one and all posted your coloring worksheets or samples on our Facebook Forum.  We learn from each other so it's always best to share even when we are not super pleased with the outcome of our work.  I can guarantee one thing in coloring....... That is you will not get better without practice, trial and error!

So Here we with a new lesson.  This week we will work on breaking down images into separate individual shapes, so that we can properly shade them. Let's jump in with our video of the week.
Here are some samples that I colored.  Note that the kitty in the hat box is copy righted so I found a similar one for you.  Thus the reasoning for two different kitties. You can purchase the pink kitty image from Crafter's Companion.

A few color combo suggestions both Copic & Spectrum Noir

Ok that sums it up for my first free online class series.  I will post more based on how successful this one is!  I hope you enjoy the classes and give me feedback on what you liked most.  Again, these classes were first done for PAID classes so the format is a bit different from what the videos may say.

Copic Classes with Jennie Black - Building Dimension Week 1

Hello,

I have taught many on line courses over the years and have decided to give a few to you for free.  The difference is that I cannot send you kits for the classes.  You can try to print the images that I provide here (when possible) or you can use similar stamps that you already own.  I will also not have a forum where I guarantee free critiquing of your images.  I will however have a private Facebook page where you can post your finished projects for comments with other classmates.  I will pop in here and there for a few comments.

First Video just explains a few basics and explains the materials that you will need.

Second video - Basic blending and layering (shading).

Recap from video
Lightest color pen: color image with your lightest color pen
Darkest color pen: add shading in using your darkest color pen.
Medium color pen: blend dark and light together with a medium colored pen.
Lightest color pen: now blend the medium and light colors together using your lightest color pen.
adjust as necessary.

Blank and colored samples.

Ok.  That's it for week one.  Your homework is to practice coloring images with layers such as these butterflies.  If you can't print the above blank sheet use a rubber stamp or digital image that you already own.

If you would like to join the rest of the participants on a private facebook page just friend me and ask for an invite.  I am Jennie Lin Black on Facebook.

Happy Coloring!
Jennie

NOTE:  The cute butterfly that I used in the video was purchased from Crafters Companion.  I looked today on their website and could not find it... maybe it is out of stock.  Hmmmm.  You can use any butterfly or dragonfly with layered wings.

Hello Everyone!

I just wanted to share a few spring cards that I have made using House Mouse-Designs. I really love this image as it reminds me of myself.   I want to color everything! Flower: I started with my lightest color then slowly added my darker colors on top, using less of each color as I got darker.  The image looks much more vibrant in person (lol).  Hope you enjoy my card as much as I do.

green: YG03, YG63, YG67 (note that I put the darker colors in the deeper areas that get less sun)
mouse: w1, w3, w5, w7
skin: E00, E11, R20 for cheeks.
ground: various browns: E00, E33, E35 and W3

This Week's class projects - Distress Ink Watercolor

I hope you can join me at The Stamp Addict in San Diego, or Pages From The Heart in Monrovia this weekend for my Distress Ink Watercolor classes.  We will be playing with painting images using stamps and stencils from Stampendous!    All you need to bring is a small (ie: #4 round) paint brush and a detail pen like a pigma or Copic black marker... even a permanent black extra fine Sharpie will work.

Here are the projects we will be working on...

This one here is the bonus project of the week.... (I didn't advertise it until tonight).
I did a pastel colored one (hard for me), and a brighter version.  I thought that those who wanted could add a lake and mountain background, and others can do the simple background.  Both will be loads of fun. All are stamped with Stazon ink then colored with distress inks from a paint palette. The Watermelon is our freehand project for the month.    See you there I hope...  Call Stores for more information!
